Four Charged With Breaking Into Milford Home, Robbing Residents At Gunpoint

MILFORD, Conn. -- Four people were charged with breaking into a Milford home in May and robbing the residents at gunpoint, according to police.

On May 29, Milford Police received a report of a home invasion that had just taken place at a Melba Street home. The caller reported that the suspects had used a firearm to forcibly take items from the home, and then had left in a silver Infiniti sedan.

Officers spoke to a man and woman at the Melba Street address, and learned that they had recently gone inside the home and were inside a bedroom when two black males forced themselves into the room, according to police. The two males had their faces concealed, and used a gun to demand money from the victims, police said.

After several minutes, a family member of the male victim came home an announced their presence, polices aid. At this point, the two suspects grabbed several items from the room and left the home, police said.

While en route to the home, a Milford officer saw a car matching the description traveling at a high speed on Old Gate Lane near New Haven Avenue, and began pursuing, police said. The pursuit ended when the officer lost sight of the car on East Town Road near Boston Post Road. He was able to obtain a license plate number, which came back to 47-year-old Charles Johnson of New Haven, according to police.

Police launched an investigation, and with the use of fingerprint and DNA analysis, witness interviews and other methods, they were able to identify three suspects in addition to Johnson, police said. The suspects were identified as 26-year-old Larry Davis of New Haven, 42-year-old Thomas Sanders of New Haven, and 22-year-old Selena Cardenas of Norwalk.

Between Jan. 17 and 19, all four suspects were taken into custody. Cardenas was charged with home invasion, conspiracy to commit home invasion, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery and conspiracy to commit first-degree burglary. She was released on a $50,000 bond and will appear in court on Feb. 13.

Johnson was charged with conspiracy to commit home invasion, conspiracy to commit first-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, reckless driving, and engaging police in pursuit. He was held on a $75,000 bond and went to court on Jan. 19.

Sanders was charged with home invasion, first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit home invasion, conspiracy to commit first-degree burglary, and conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery. He was held on a $75,000 bond and went to court on Jan. 18.

Davis was charged with home invasion, first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit home invasion, conspiracy to commit first-degree burglary, and conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery. He was held on a $75,000 bond and went to court on Jan. 18.
